From then until 1995 he worked in Victoria in a variety of different locations including in Melbourne, Geelong and Bacchus Marsh. He held visiting consultant positions at the Repatriation General Hospital in Heidelberg & St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne.

He first worked in Cairns between 1995 and 2003. He then moved to Hervey Bay, where he was the only full-time private psychiatrist on the Fraser Coast for approximately 10 years. Towards the end of 2013, he returned to Far North Queensland where he re-established his private psychiatric practice.

Dr Taylor is a specialist medical practitioner working in the field of adult psychiatry with special interests in psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.

He completed his medical degree at University of Melbourne and subsequently undertook psychiatry training in Melbourne, Victoria in a variety of different settings with both inpatient and outpatient commitments. He worked in the psychiatric units of Austin Hospital and St Vincent Hospital, as well as in facilities involved in the treatment of alcohol addiction.
